Film Your World

Built something you're proud of? Let's film it. Axe'n'Stax has a built-in Director — a camera you can fly anywhere, with no walls in its way — for capturing beautiful flythroughs and slow circles around your builds. It's the same idea as the freecam in your favourite Minecraft videos, only built right in.

On a PC? The Director is in the desktop version of the game (not the browser one). It's brand new, so the keys below might still change a little.

Lift off — press F6

Press F6. Your character freezes on the spot and the camera floats free — now you are the camera. (Don't worry, your character is safe and waiting; press F6 again any time to drop straight back in.)

Have a fly around to find your feet:

• W A S D — move where you're looking
• Mouse — look around
• Space — go up, Left Shift — go down
• Hold Left Ctrl — zoom along faster

The camera glides straight through walls, so you can get anywhere.

Tidy the screen — press F8

Press F8 and the hotbar, hearts and crosshair all melt away — just your world, ready for its close-up. Press F8 again whenever you want them back.

Circle your build — the hero shot

The camera has a few modes, and F9 flips between them. There's no label on screen yet (that's coming), so you tell them apart by what the camera does.

Keep pressing F9 until the camera locks onto your character — now moving the mouse swings the camera in a circle around you. That's Look-at mode (it's the fourth press after you open the Director).

• Move the mouse to swing around.
• Press W to drift in closer, S to pull back.

A slow circle around your build, with you standing in the middle of it, is the shot that makes a world look amazing.

Make a gliding flythrough

Want the camera to travel a smooth path all on its own? You drop a few "stops" and it joins them up:

1. Press F9 until you can steer freely again (that's Free-fly).
2. Fly to where you want the shot to begin, and press Enter — that pins a stop right there.
3. Fly on a little and press Enter again. Drop three or four stops along the route you'd like the camera to travel.
4. Press F12. The camera takes over and glides smoothly through every stop in order. Press F12 again to stop it.

Don't love it? Press Backspace to wipe the path and try a different route. Hide the screen with F8 while it plays, and you've got a proper cinematic flythrough.

Keep the footage

The easiest way to save a clip right now is to screen-record it: start OBS (or any screen recorder), hide the screen with F8, and play your shot.

You can also tap F4 to save a recording of your whole session — a little message tells you where it went. That's for an exciting feature coming soon: replaying your session and re-filming it in slow motion. For now, screen-recording is the way to get a video.

Back to the action — press F6

Press F6 to hop back into your character. The screen comes back and you carry on right where you left off.

You flew the camera, cleared the screen, circled your build like a pro, and set a gliding flythrough running. That's everything you need to start making videos of your world.
