Make It Your Own

Don't like how a block looks? Change it. In the Workshop you can blow a block up huge, paint it however you fancy, and then wear that new look on every block of that kind in your world. Let's give it a go.

The Workshop is your own private design room β€” a calm, empty space just for making things look the way you want. Nothing you do here can break your real world, so play around as much as you like.

Step into the Workshop

Open the chat with T (or /) and type:

You'll pop into a blank room with a floor and nothing else. You're in Creative here, so you can fly and you've got blocks to spare. Look in your last hotbar slot β€” that funny little tool is the Bellows. That's what does the magic.

Place a block and blow it up

  1. Pick a block from your hotbar β€” stone is perfect for a first try β€” and right-click to place it on the floor.
  2. Select the Bellows.
  3. Aim at the block you just placed. A wireframe cage appears, showing where it's about to grow β€” green means there's room, red means something's in the way (just give it more space).
  4. Hold down right-click. Watch it swell β€” bigger… bigger… huge, four blocks tall. Keep holding right through all three puffs until it locks at full size.

Let go too soon and it shrinks straight back down β€” no harm done, just aim and hold again. Once it's locked, you can let go and walk all the way around it.

(Stuck on bare floor? Place a block first, then aim the Bellows at the block, not the ground.)

Paint it with a dye

Now the fun bit. You paint with dyes β€” grab whichever colour you like (press B to open your item explorer and pull out a dye, say Red Dye).

Hold the dye and left-click a square on the giant block. That little square turns your colour. Daub away β€” square by square, paint a face, paint a pattern, paint a smiley.

Press V to sculpt

You're in Paint mode by default, which is great for colouring but won't reshape anything β€” left- and right-clicking there only paints. To add or carve off chunks of the block, press V to switch to Sculpt mode first.

Once you're in Sculpt mode:

  • Want to add a chunky bit? Right-click with the dye and a new coloured cube pops out where you're aiming.
  • Made a wonky cube? Switch to your empty hand (or a pickaxe) and left-click it to carve it back off.

Press V again any time to flip back to Paint mode and keep colouring.

Two clever tricks

These two make life so much easier:

  • Eyedropper β€” press G. Aim at a square that's already the perfect colour and press G to grab that colour. Now you're painting with it β€” no hunting for the right dye.
  • Mirror β€” press M. Press M to flip on symmetry. Now whatever you paint on one side copies to the other side automatically β€” so you only do half the work and it still comes out matching. Press M again to cycle through the mirror modes, or turn it off.

Pin it on β€” press P

Happy with your masterpiece? Press P.

That's the magic moment: every single block of that kind in your world now wears your new look. Pin a painted stone, and all your stone changes at once. It only changes how blocks look β€” they still behave exactly the same β€” so it's completely safe.

The giant block deflates back to normal size, and your design is saved.

Keep your looks in the Wardrobe

You don't only get one design β€” you can make loads and switch between them whenever you fancy.

Press K to open your Wardrobe. It's a little gallery of every look you've pinned, sorted by block. In here you can:

  • Set active β€” choose which saved look is being worn right now.
  • Use original β€” go back to the plain, stock block any time. Nothing's ever lost.
  • Rename or delete your designs to keep things tidy.

Press K again to close it.

πŸŽ‰ You did it

You blew a block up, painted it, and made your whole world wear the look you dreamed up β€” and you can swap it out from the Wardrobe whenever the mood takes you. That's your world now, looking exactly how you want it.
